As a political stir broke out on Friday over the killing of a Dalit girl in Karauli, Rajasthan’s ruling Congress said protest in the matter is justified only if the government fails to act. The body of the victim, a resident of Todabhim area, was found in a well in Karauli district. She was allegedly abducted, raped and attacked with acid before being murdered. “The opposition is trying to politicize the issue,” said RC Chowdhary, general secretary of the state Congress unit. He said protest in this matter is justified only if the government fails to act. Chaudhary said, there is rule of law in Rajasthan. The culprits will be arrested soon and punished as per the law.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists on Friday staged a protest near the IBS Hospital near Vidhan Sabha here over the murder incident and demanded strict action against the culprits. Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) (South) Bharatlal Meena said when the protesters tried to cross the barricade near the hospital and head towards the Assembly, they were stopped by the police. Meena said that some activists who were slightly injured during the clash with the police were taken to the hospital. Police said that Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code is applicable in the area around the assembly.

ABVP national secretary Hoshiyar Meena said that the workers will continue their agitation. BJP’s Rajya Sabha member Kirori Lal Meena and other party leaders along with the family members of the victim are sitting on a dharna outside the hospital in Karauli since Thursday night. They are demanding strict action against the culprits and compensation to the victim’s family.
