New Delhi / Port Blair. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the new integrated terminal of Veer Savarkar International Airport through video conference. Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia unveiled the statue of VD Savarkar in the campus and visited the establishment. He was accompanied by Union Minister of State for Road, Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation Gen (Retd) VK Singh.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Modi said today, “With the construction of this terminal, travel to Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be easier and tourism in particular will get a big boost in this region. The new integrated terminal building of the Veer Savarkar International Airport at Port Blair will enhance connectivity along with ease of travel and ease of doing business, he said.

He said, “For a long time, the scope of development in India did not reach the far flung areas of the country due to the selfish politics of some parties. These parties used to give priority to those works in which there is good for themselves and their families, the result was that the people of the tribal areas and islands remained deprived of development, yearning for development.

He also said today, “In the last 9 years, we have not only rectified the mistakes of the old governments, but have also given new facilities and avenues to the people. A new model of development has evolved in India. This is the model of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’. A budget of about Rs 23,000 crore was allotted to Andaman and Nicobar during the 9 years of our previous government. While during our government, a budget of about 48 thousand crore rupees has been given for the development of Andaman and Nicobar in 9 years.

He also said on this occasion today, “For 2024, the people of the country have made up their mind to bring back our government. In such a situation, some people responsible for the plight of India have opened their shops and sat down. Looking at them reminds me of a poem, “Gayit kuch hai, haal kuch hai, label kuch hai maal kuch hai”. It fits the bill for parties that are 26 for 24.”

This new terminal building has been constructed at a cost of about seven hundred and ten crore rupees. This terminal will play an important role in promoting connectivity to Andaman and Nicobar. This terminal is spread over an area of about 40 thousand eight hundred square meters. The new terminal building has the capacity to handle approximately 5 million passengers annually. Efron friendly two Boeing-767-400 and two Airbus-321 class aircraft have been manufactured at the airport at a cost of Rs 80 crore. In this way, 10 aircraft will get parking facility at one time in this airport.
