Prime Minister Narendra Modi spent Diwali this past Sunday with CoBRA personnel at their Operations Base in Karanpur, Chhattisgarh's Bastar district, where he declared India's triumph in its decades-long battle against Naxalism. Addressing the elite forces, the Prime Minister lauded their unwavering courage and immense sacrifices in securing the region.
The Karanpur facility holds strategic importance, historically serving as a critical training centre and launchpad for counter-Naxal operations across the Bastar region and Abujhmad, areas once considered strongholds of Maoist insurgency. During his visit, PM Modi expressed a deep personal connection with the security personnel, describing them as an integral part of his family.
"Today, millions of Indians are joyfully observing the revered festival of lights throughout the nation and across the globe. People are travelling from distant places to reunite with their families," he remarked. "I have also come here to join you in the Diwali festivities. Those who defend our nation at its borders and within… all of you are like family to me."
The Prime Minister highlighted the significant transformation witnessed in Bastar, attributing the elimination of the Naxal threat and the ushering in of development to the forces' relentless dedication. He called this year's Diwali particularly momentous, marking a historic milestone in the country's fight against extremist violence.
"After 40–50 years, a Diwali like this has come. This is the first Diwali when the nation has won its decades-long war against Naxalism and Maoist terror. This is the first Diwali when every district of the country is free from Naxalism," PM Modi stated. He emphasized that this "incredible accomplishment" stands as a testament to the countless brave individuals in uniform, underscoring why he chose to celebrate the festival among them.
