Bengaluru: The countdown to the Vidhan Parishad elections has started and the Congress has finalized the candidates for the by-elections to be held on June 30 for the 3 seats of the Council. After measuring and weighing, the Congress leaders gave tickets. But Baburao Chinchansur, who was expecting to get a ticket, got a shock as the chance was missed!

Science and Technology Minister NS Bosaraju, former Chief Minister Jagdish Shettar and former minister Baburao Chinchanasur, among others, were rumored to be on the Congress list. But the expectation was reversed and the Congress high command gave a shock to the former minister Baburao Chinchansur. Baburao Chinchansur had resigned from his Vidhan Parishad seat to contest the assembly elections. In this background, there was a belief that Chinchansur will get the ticket. But Congress leaders have published an unexpected list.

Jagdish Shettar

Who got Parishad ticket?

In the announced list, Congress has given tickets to Science & Technology Minister NS Bosaraju, former Chief Minister Jagdish Shettar and Tippanna Kamakanur. The last day to submit nominations is Tuesday, tomorrow June 20. Nomination papers can be submitted till 3 pm. Scrutiny of nominations will be held on June 21. And June 23 is the last day to withdraw nomination papers. MLAs will vote from 9 am to 4 pm on June 30. After that the counting of votes will take place and the result will be announced.

Congress stood behind Shettar!

Shettar’s entry has strengthened the Congress in the Kittur Karnataka region in the 2023 elections. Therefore, Jagdish Shettar is being made a seat even though he lost as a Congress candidate in the recently held assembly elections. Shettar contested from Hubli Dharwad Central constituency and lost against BJP’s Mahesh Tenginakai. He was said to be a ministerial aspirant in the Congress government. On the same occasion, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar went to Hubli after the formation of the Cabinet and held talks with Shettar. He promised to give suitable status.

Why are by-elections taking place?

R.Shankar, Lakshmana Savadi & Baburao who were earlier members of the Parishad had resigned from their Parishad seats and BJP before the Chinchansur assembly elections and joined the Congress. Thus 3 seats were vacant in the Parishad. Now the by-election is going on to fill those positions. Baburao’s Chinchansur Parishad membership would end on June 17, 2024, R. Shankar’s term would end on June 30, 2026 and Lakshmana Savadi’s membership would end on June 14, 2028. But they had resigned from their respective MLC positions in order to contest the assembly elections on Congress tickets.

Within a month and a half of the assembly elections in Ott, another election has come. The Congress leaders used to measure and weigh and calculate this much for giving tickets in the Parishad elections. On the other hand, the responsibility of providing a suitable seat for Jagdish Shettar was also on the Congress leaders. Now the Congress leaders have handled it and it is said that it is almost certain that the candidates of the Congress party will win in all 3 seats.
