New Delhi: Saying that our protest is not politically motivated, Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik said on Saturday that our protest is only against the WFI president and not against the government.
Earlier, Sakshi Malik said in a video posted on Twitter that the wrestlers had endured harassment for many years and remained silent because they were not united. This time her husband, wrestler Satyavarth Kadian is also with her.
Lies are being created about the wrestlers’ protest. Kadian said that he wanted to clear the rumors about this.
“Let me make it clear that our protest is not politically motivated. We came to Jantar Mantar in January and got police permission to protest,” Kadian said.
“This is not a Congress-backed protest. More than 90 per cent of the wrestlers knew that this (harassment and intimidation) was going on for the last 10-12 years. Some wanted to raise their voice. But the wrestlers were not united,” he said.
“You have seen the minor wrestler retracting her statement. Her family is under threat. These wrestlers are from poor families. It is not easy to face a powerful person,” said witness Malik.
The country’s top wrestlers, including Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia, have accused outgoing Wrestling Federation of India president and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment and threats.
Leaders of various political parties, including Congress’s Priyanka Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik visited the protest venue to support the wrestlers.
