New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ashutosh Dubey on Tuesday wrote a letter to the Election Commission of India against the naming of the alliance of opposition parties as Indian National Alliance for Inclusive Development (India).

In a letter to the Election Commission, he alleged that the opposition parties seem to be misusing the name of the nation and doing politics in the name of India.

In a meeting held in Bangalore, 26 opposition parties announced their alliance called the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA). Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the fight is between India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to face the ruling NDA unitedly in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Dubey, Head of Social Media-Legal and Consultancy, BJP Maharashtra, said, “The decision of opposition parties not only lacks originality but also seems to be using our nation’s name as a mere tool to gain power.”

In his letter to the Election Commission, recently the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) is being renamed as Indian National Democratic Inclusive Alliance (India). This move is seen as a malicious attempt to use the name of our nation for the political aspirations of the opposition parties, which I believe is disrespectful to the country and its citizens,” he said.

Political parties have the right to choose their names and develop their strategies for electoral success. Political parties should take a decision without compromising the dignity and integrity of our nation. By directly associating their political agenda with our name. The country, accused the Indian National Democratic Inclusive Union (India) of not only showing lack of originality but also using the name of our nation as a mere tool to gain power.

In the letter, the BJP leader asserted that in future, if the party wins, people will say ‘India has won’, but if the party loses, people will say ‘India has lost’. It promotes a sense of national shame.

It implies that election results equate to the victory or loss of the nation as a whole, ignoring the diverse perspectives, aspirations and democratic rights of individual citizens. undermines the pluralistic nature of our democracy. The letter mentions that it is trying to exploit public sentiment for political gain.

I request the Election Commission of India to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure that political parties adhere to ethical standards while choosing their names and formulating slogans. The letter mentioned that it is essential to uphold the sanctity of our nation’s name.
