They are just looking for an excuse. But we are ready for discussion on any issue, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said before the start of Monsoon session today. The government has said that it is ready to discuss all issues in the monsoon session. Joshi said that we have appealed to the opposition parties to support the smooth functioning of Parliament. Responding to the media yesterday, he clarified that the government is ready to discuss the situation in Manipur in the Monsoon session of the Parliament, as the Union Home Ministry is the nodal ministry for the North Eastern state. Opposition parties are demanding a statement from the Prime Minister in Parliament on the situation in Manipur on May 3 in which more than 150 lives were lost in communal violence sparked by a ‘tribal solidarity march’. Speaking after a meeting presided over by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Joshi said yesterday that all parties are demanding a discussion on Manipur. He criticized the opposition’s insistence that the Prime Minister should make a statement on the matter after the government had agreed to the discussion, which was like trying to disrupt the proceedings of Parliament. The opposition is looking for new reasons to not allow debate in the House. The government agreed to discuss Manipur on the opposition’s demand. Now they want the Prime Minister’s statement on the matter. He said that these people are making new pretexts and keeping the house from running.
