On Sunday morning, the water level of the Netravati river in Bantwal receded to 7.4 meters from 8.4 meters on Saturday night, bringing relief to residents. The river had overflowed its danger mark on Saturday evening due to heavy rain, flooding roads and houses in areas such as Panemangalore and Bantwal. By Sunday, the floodwaters had drained, and the situation was returning to normal. The intensity of the flood decreased significantly, with the river water level dropping by almost a meter. On Saturday night, the river water had flowed onto roads in several places, including Jakribettu, disrupting traffic, and had also entered the Baddakatte bus stand, disrupting bus services. The water level had risen up to the steps near the Venkataramana Temple in Bantwal, prompting officials to evacuate 15 houses in the Panemangalore Aladka area as a precautionary measure. Although the situation has improved, officials have warned that the water level could rise again by evening due to continued heavy rain in the Ghats region, and have advised locals and residents along the riverbanks to remain vigilant. As of Sunday, August 2, the water on the roads has completely drained, and residents are cautiously optimistic that the floodwaters will not return.
