Mangaluru, Jun 27, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of widespread rainfall across Karnataka for the next week, with the southwest monsoon set to intensify. Coastal districts — Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Uttara Kannada — are under a Yellow Alert starting June 27.
According to the IMD's June 27 bulletin, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds will affect many parts of the state. Heavy downpours are likely in several districts, and the intensity is expected to increase from June 30 onward. The alert remains in place through July 3, with monsoon activity staying active over the coastal region.
From June 27 to June 30, heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds and lightning, is forecast for the three coastal districts. The IMD predicts continuous rain over these areas for the full seven-day period. Between July 1 and July 3, the monsoon will remain vigorous, bringing more heavy showers to the coast and other parts of Karnataka.
The weather department has advised residents, particularly farmers and fishermen, to stay cautious. Officials urge people to avoid taking shelter under trees or inside old and dilapidated buildings during thunderstorms and lightning strikes. The IMD continues to monitor the situation and will issue updates as needed.
