On July 25, in Mangaluru, MLC S.L. Bhojegowda raised concerns about the impact of unscientific weather reports on the educational sector in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. With students from various districts studying in these educationally developed areas, Bhojegowda questioned the continuous declaration of holidays as a precautionary measure, even when there is no rain. He emphasized that such decisions not only affect day schools but also residential schools, ultimately hindering students’ academic progress. While acknowledging the government’s precautionary stance, Bhojegowda argued that declaring holidays during normal weather conditions causes significant losses to students’ curriculum. He pointed out that the Meteorological Department’s reports often fail to consider the actual situation on the ground. Bhojegowda suggested that the district administration and government should consider taluk-wise weather conditions when making decisions. Since different taluks in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi experience varying weather, he proposed zone-wise decisions. Bhojegowda has appealed to the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner and concerned government departments to prioritize students’ educational interests and protect their future.
