On Saturday, residents of Jalsur and Kanakamajalu area were left without electricity after Mescom locked the Grid Outdoor Switch (GOS) at Adkaru-Vinobanagar near Vinobanagar village in Sulya. The GOS, which is normally used to switch power lines in case of a fault, was locked by the Sulya Mescom branch as a precautionary measure to prevent potential problems in the Sulya part of the power line. The lockout occurred after a fault was detected in the power line from Puttur to Kanakamajalu and Jalsur villages. As a result, the usual backup power supply from the Sulya part could not be routed to the affected areas. The people of Jalsur and Kanakamajalu are now demanding that the lock be removed and power supply be restored. According to Mohammed Fawaz, a former member of the Gram Panchayat in Kanakamajalu, the problem started on Saturday and Mescom’s decision to block the GOS has caused the power outage. Fawaz stated that the Sulya Mescom branch locked the GOS in Mavinakatte due to the possibility of problems in the Sulya part if power was supplied from there.
