On Sunday, Manipur security forces conducted a series of coordinated raids across the state, resulting in the arrest of five militants and two alleged drug traffickers over the past 24 hours. The operations, which took place in Imphal East, Kakching, and Thoubal districts, targeted three banned outfits: the Kangleipak Communist Party, Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup, and the United National Liberation Front. According to officials, the arrested militants were involved in extortion, kidnappings, and other unlawful activities. Two active UNLF members, Mutum Seitaraj Singh and Thounaojam Rakesh Meitei, were apprehended in Thoubal district, and their vehicle, a Maruti Suzuki Swift, was seized.
In Imphal West district, security personnel raided an automobile workshop, recovering 346 grams of suspected brown sugar worth over Rs 50 lakh. The workshop owners, Sheikh Salauddin and Chongtham Anilkumar Singh, were arrested. Separate search operations in Imphal West and Ukhrul districts led to the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons and explosives, including modified rifles, pistols, and a homemade mortar shell. To curb insurgent activities, security forces have intensified search operations and area domination exercises across sensitive locations.
Authorities have established 112 nakas and checkpoints to monitor the movement of militants and suspicious vehicles. Armed escorts are being provided to trucks transporting essential commodities along the Imphal-Jiribam NH-37. The Manipur Police has urged citizens to remain cautious and verify information before sharing it on social media, reporting any fake videos or messages to the authorities. With these intensified operations, security forces aim to strengthen security and prevent insurgent activities in the region.
