On June 6, a 28-year-old mechanical engineer from Mangaluru filed a complaint with the Kankanadi Nagar police station, alleging he was cheated of Rs 2.93 lakh by an unknown person who promised him a job at a Volvo company in Hoskote, Bengaluru. The engineer received a call on May 27 from an unknown number, with the caller introducing himself as Praveen from a job agency. Praveen informed the engineer that he had been selected for an interview for the position of mechanical production engineer at the Volvo company. The engineer was asked to transfer Rs 2,000 as an interview fee, which he did. A video link for the interview was sent to him via email on May 29, and the interview was conducted. On June 1, the engineer was told he had been selected for the job and was asked to transfer Rs 20,000 to an account. The engineer was later asked to pay a gatepass fee of Rs 27,600 and a medical fee of Rs 40,000. When the engineer was asked to pay more money on June 26, he requested to cancel the job and was told to pay a cancellation fee of Rs 15,579 to get a refund. However, after paying the cancellation fee, the engineer was cheated and did not receive a refund or the job. The engineer has asked the police to take legal action against the accused, who cheated him of a total of Rs 2,93,512.
