On Sunday, August 2, residents of Dakshina Kannada district experienced varied rainfall, with rural areas receiving good rain and urban areas seeing a decrease in precipitation. Mangaluru, the district’s main city, witnessed a brief spell of rain accompanied by strong winds, followed by a cloudy day. The rural areas of Dharmasthala, Charmadi Ghat region, Sullia, Kadaba, Beltangady, and other places received significant rainfall. The Arabian Sea coastal region experienced high wind speeds. As of Sunday morning, the district had recorded 100.6 mm of rainfall, with Sullia receiving the highest amount of 140.6 mm, followed by Beltangady with 124.8 mm. Other areas such as Ullal, Moodbidri, Kadaba, Bantwal, Puttur, Mangaluru, and Mulki also received substantial rainfall. The water levels in the district’s rivers, including the Netravati and Kumaradhara, were measured, with the Netravati River at Bantwal having 8.6 m of water. A tree fell on the 8th Cross Road in Gandhinagar late on Saturday night, damaging electric poles and wires, and disrupting road traffic. The district has reported five deaths and one missing person due to the heavy rain since June 1, with seven people injured. The rainfall has also caused significant damage to properties, with 11 houses completely collapsing and 553 houses partially damaged. Additionally, three livestock have died, and 9.920 hectares of horticultural land have been damaged, along with 4,893 electric poles and nine bridges.
