Makkah, July 20 (SO News/Agency) Like every year, the cover of the Kaaba was changed at the beginning of the new Islamic year.
According to Arab media, like every year, at the beginning of the new Islamic year, the cover of the Kaaba was changed on the 1st of Muharram. In this regard, between Tuesday and Wednesday, a spirited ceremony of covering the Kaaba was held in Masjid al-Haram Khana Kaaba.
A team of experts from the King Abdulaziz Kiswah Complex under the supervision of the head of the Haramain Sharifin administration, Aala Sheikh Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Sudis, completed the work. It took three to four hours to remove the golden rings that bind the cover of the Kaaba, replace the old cover with a new cover.
On this occasion, Sheikh Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Sudis said in his speech at the ceremony that a strategic plan has been made to establish the King Abdulaziz Complex Academy in relation to the Kaaba, in which special courses and training will be given to Saudi youth.
Gold, silver and pure silk are used in covering the Kaaba. Modern machinery is used in its production, which is prepared with hard work and dedication by workers under the supervision of experts. At the completion of all stages of production and manufacturing and in the middle of the month of Dhul-Qa’da, an annual ceremony takes place at the Kaaba cover factory and the cover is handed over to the Superintendent.
This year, the preparation of the new cover of the Kaaba has cost about 25 million Riyals. In addition to gold and silver, 850 kg of raw silk was used. More than 100 skilled artisans worked on the production of 55 pieces of cover and each piece took 60 to 120 days to embroider. The quality of the materials used in the manufacture of the Kaaba cover was tested in the laboratory before use.
Earlier, the Holy Kaaba was brought from the King Abdulaziz Kiswah Complex to the Al-Haram Mosque in the form of a procession by special trucks and vehicles and a special route was determined to take it from the outer gate of the Al-Haram Mosque to Mataf.
It should be noted that during the entire process of changing the cover of the Kaaba, each part is brought separately to the upper part of the Kaaba from where they are then taken off and the previous cover is removed. This process is repeated four times alternately until the new cover is applied and the old one comes off.
Earlier, for many decades, the cover of the Kaaba (Kiswat) was changed every year during the Hajj on the morning of 9 Dhu al-Hijj after the pilgrims had left for Arafat.
