In a landmark achievement for the coastal Karnataka region, Sneha, a resident of Kundalapadi in Karkala, secured the first MBBS seat under the government quota at the Alvas Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (AIMSRC). Her success marks the inaugural admission of a female student from Alvas Pre‑University College to the medical programme.
Sneha completed her Secondary School Leaving Certificate at Jesis High School with 590 marks. She then enrolled in Alvas Pre‑University College, where she benefited from the Alvas Merit Adoption Scheme, a financial support programme designed for students from modest backgrounds. Intensive preparation and consistent effort enabled her to score 506 out of 720 in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), earning the coveted government‑quota seat at Alvas Medical College.
The daughter of Manjunath, a driver who has served Sri Nivas University in Mangalore for twelve years, and Vanaja, a homemaker, Sneha grew up in a household where education was highly valued despite limited resources. Her younger sister, Sana, is currently studying in the seventh grade in Karkala.
Speaking about her journey, Sneha said, "Becoming a doctor was my father's dream, and I worked hard to turn that vision into reality. The quality education and guidance received at Alvas gave me the confidence to perform well in NEET. The adoption scheme was a vital support for my family's financial situation."
Dr. M. Mohan Alva, the founder of Alvas, highlighted the institution's commitment to removing economic barriers for talented students. He remarked, "Our aim is to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder deserving scholars. Providing a quality education to a student like Sneha reflects the success of our adoption plan. Beyond academics, Sneha nurtures a passion for Karnataka's cultural heritage. Trained in Yakshagana under Mahesh Kanyadi, she has performed in several Bagavathi events. She also achieved a 90 percent score in the Junior Karnataka Classical Music examination, showcasing her versatility. Looking ahead, Sneha aspires to specialise in cardiology and serve the community, while planning to give back by supporting education and cultural initiatives for underprivileged youth.
