On Friday morning, a shootout occurred in front of the Holy Rosary Church in Kundapura, resulting in the death of Ivan Richard Mascarenhas. The accused, Derrick Crasta, has absconded, prompting the police to launch an intense search. Udupi District Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar has formed three special teams to track down Derrick, a resident of Kannadakudru near Hemmady. Ivan, originally from Hebri and currently a resident of Barkur, was shot by Derrick at around 3:15 AM. The incident occurred after Derrick sent Ivan a message challenging him to come to Kundapura alone, providing a location. Ivan arrived in Kundapura with a woman and parked his car in front of the church, where Derrick shot him in the lower waist as he got out of the car. Ivan succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The police believe a dispute over financial and business matters led to the murder. A case has been registered at the Kundapura Police Station, and the police are working to apprehend Derrick soon.
