On Friday afternoon, villagers gathered in front of the Koteshwara Gram Panchayat, demanding action against the encroachment of the inner city road. The road, which falls under the Public Works Department, has been encroached upon at various points, causing obstruction to traffic. The villagers demanded that the authorities take immediate action to clear the encroachments and ensure smooth movement of vehicles.
The issue has been ongoing for several years, with private buses operating from Kundapura to rural areas and Udupi having reduced their entry into the inner city due to the problem. The villagers have been facing difficulties due to the encroachment, which has reduced the width of the road, making it difficult for vehicles to pass through.
The encroachment has been caused by the construction of shops, extensions, and gates, which have been built up to the road. The villagers have urged the authorities to take action against those who have encroached upon the road and to ensure that the road is cleared of all obstructions.
The Koteshwara Gram Panchayat development officer, Dinesh Naik, has assured the public that a joint survey will be conducted with the Revenue Department and the Public Works Department to identify the encroachments and take necessary action to clear them. The villagers have vowed to continue their struggle until the issue is resolved.
