  • Karthik had handed over the KKR captaincy to Morgan mid IPL 2020
  • KKR will start their 2021 IPL campaign against SRH on April 11

Dinesh Karthik, a former skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders, handed over the franchise’s captaincy to England’s World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan mid-way during IPL 2020.

KKR were unable to make it to the playoffs given a shockingly poor form that Andre Russell was in. However, with certain changes in the side this time, KKR are looking forward to a promising season.

Speaking of the value Dinesh Karthik adds to the side, Morgan said that he is not only important because of his brilliant batting but also how he supports him on and off the field

“DK offers a lot with the bat and behind the stumps. He has been in fine form, and he is always one of those players who if you watch him train and particularly bat, he times the ball beautifully and hits the ball further than most of the guys,” Morgan said, as quoted by KKR’s official website.

“He offers a huge amount of support to me on the pitch and off the field as well. Very grateful that he is in good form and in our team,” he added.

Last week, in an interactive session on Twitter, a fan had asked Karthik about the ‘most exciting KKR recruitment’ in the IPL 2021 auction.

“It’s always great to have Shakib Al Hasan with us, he has been a very exciting recruit for us. He has played with KKR before so it’s great to have him back in our team,” Karthik answered.

Shakib Al Hasan has returned back to his former IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after being bought for Rs 3.2 crore in the IPL 2021 auction. He was part of KKR’s 2012 and 2014 teams which won the title under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir.

KKR will start their 2021 IPL campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 11, in Chennai.
