On Friday, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced that the Karnataka government is committed to implementing a socio-economic survey to deliver social justice. At the 11th National Convention of the National OBC Mahasangh in Bengaluru, Shivakumar stated that the Congress government conducted the survey and will move forward with its implementation. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of equal opportunities for all sections of society, citing the principle of equal life and equal share for all. He also mentioned that a caste census was conducted around 1931 during the British period, and leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi are committed to conducting another one. Shivakumar highlighted that two-thirds of the ministers in the cabinet belong to backward classes, scheduled castes/tribes, and minorities, demonstrating the government’s commitment to listening to their voice. The Chief Minister also pointed out that OBC reservation was provided during the time of Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar, and backward classes make up 52 per cent of the population in the country. He assured the National OBC Mahasangh that the government is working to fulfill their aspirations and provide reservation in local bodies. Shivakumar emphasized the importance of a caste census, stating that it is necessary to reduce the gap and provide equal opportunities. He urged the people to support the Congress party, which has a history of introducing reforms and protecting the interests of all sections.
