Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Saturday wrote to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, requesting an extended period for claims, objections and verification during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the state's electoral rolls.
The letter, reproduced by Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on X, argues that the current timetable does not allow enough time for voters to respond to the massive deletions flagged by the SIR process. He highlighted that delays could jeopardise the credibility of upcoming elections.
Shivakumar points out that out of 5.54 crore registered electors, roughly 1.08 crore have been placed in the Absent, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate and Others (ASDDO) category. He adds that after the draft roll was published on August 24, about 43.8 lakh voters will receive verification notices for logical discrepancies or missing links to the 2002 roll.
