On Wednesday, Karnataka BJP leaders, including R. Ashoka and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, marched towards the KPCC headquarters in Bengaluru to protest against the Congress party’s handling of the NEET row and its alleged neglect of state issues. The police detained the leaders near the Cantonment area, while a separate group of Congress workers targeted BJP MLA B.P. Harish, hurling eggs at him as he arrived at the KPCC office. The police intervened, escorting Harish to safety and diverting the protesters. Ashoka, addressing the media, accused the Congress party of indulging in ‘political drama’ over the NEET issue, ignoring the severe drought affecting 175 taluks in Karnataka. He demanded that the state government declare drought and allocate Rs 20 crore for drinking water works in each Assembly constituency and taluk. Ashoka also called for the constitution of taluk-level drought task forces to address the crisis. Criticizing Rahul Gandhi’s participation in protests in Delhi, Ashoka alleged that the Congress party was prioritizing political mileage over the welfare of Karnataka. The BJP leaders’ protest was stopped by the police, but their demands highlighted the pressing concerns facing the state, including the drought and the need for government action.
