Bengaluru:  There was a lot of uproar in the Karnataka Assembly on Wednesday. BJP members got angry with Speaker UT Khadar’s decision to conduct the proceedings of the House without stopping for lunch. They threw papers towards the speaker’s seat and created ruckus. After this, the speaker suspended 10 BJP MLAs from the rest of the assembly session. Now after the suspension of BJP MLAs from the Karnataka Assembly session, BJP and JDS have given a notice to move a no-confidence motion against the speaker.

 

The assembly session in Karnataka began on July 3, which will continue till July 21. On Wednesday, the Speaker suspended BJP MLAs Dr. CN Ashwath Narayan, V Sunil Kumar, R Ashok, Araga Gyanendra (all former ministers), D Vedavyas Kamath, Yashpal Suvarna, Dheeraj Muniraj, A Umanath Kotian, Arvind Bellad and Y Bharat Shetty for creating ruckus. has been suspended.

In the Vidhansabha on Wednesday, some BJP MLAs protested against the alleged ‘misuse’ of IAS officers by the state government. Angered by the Speaker’s decision, BJP members tore the copies of bills and agenda. Papers were thrown towards the speaker’s seat. A group of IAS officers was deployed in connection with the two-day unity meeting of opposition parties in Bengaluru. This meeting ended on Tuesday.

Amidst the uproar, Assembly Speaker UT Khadar went on to say that the proceedings of the House would not stop for lunch and the discussion on the budget and other issues would continue. After this, Deputy Speaker Rudrappa Lamani was conducting the House, when angry MLAs suddenly threw papers towards the Speaker and Deputy Speaker’s seat. The legislators demanded that under which rule the lunch was cancelled.

Congress MLAs objected to the unruly behavior of BJP MLAs. After this, the Deputy Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the House.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H K Patil had filed an appeal for suspension. It said: “I am moving this motion…I request you that these members should be suspended from the House on this day under section 348 of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly Rules of Procedure. For their indecent and disrespectful conduct For this, the entry into the house should be banned till the remaining session of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

After this the proposal was put to vote. Later suspending the MLAs, the speaker said, “I am taking this decision because of the indecent and disrespectful behavior of the 10 MLAs.”
