Udupi, A.11 – The indigenous cultural celebration Mahish Mahotsava was inaugurated on Sunday at the Shri Narayan Guru Sabha Hall, with Jnanaprakash Swamiji of Mysore Uriling Pedda Math delivering the keynote address.

Swamiji asserted that the term “Asura” does not denote a demon but a generous protector, and that Mahishasura was a chief of the original inhabitants. He warned that present‑day historiography portrays these figures as monsters, thereby rewriting India’s true past.

According to the swamiji, the current narrative pits Brahmins against Buddhists, Dravidians against Aryans, and serves the interests of a few elite groups. He urged the audience to study authentic history to reclaim the nation’s heritage.

The event was organized by the Ambedkar Youth Force under the Udupi district shelter. Ganesh Nergi, president of the Ambedkar Youth Force Udupi district, presided over the ceremony. Chief guests included Sudheer Kumar Maroli, secretary of the Malenadu‑Karavali Janapara Federation and a justice, as well as senior thinker Narayana Manuru.

U.Prameshwar, director of the Udupi District Dalit Oppression Awareness Committee, and Congress Udupi district president Kisan Hegde were honoured alongside Dasam Udupi district coordinator Vasudev Madduru and Ambedkar Sena Udupi district president Satish Kanchugodu.

Folk activist Jayan Malpe delivered a prologue, followed by welcomes from Dayakar Malpe, greetings from Raviraj Lakshminagar and narration by Raghur Shirur. Artist Shankar Das and his troupe performed revolutionary songs, emphasizing that the community must become rulers rather than remain enslaved.

Swamiji concluded by accusing political and media institutions of silencing indigenous voices, calling for the preservation of the “Ambedkar Constitution” and a revival of the true cultural legacy of Mahishasura.
