Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on Saturday that Iran will continue on the path of peace with the US, as outlined in the recent memorandum of understanding, if the US helps establish an atmosphere of trust. In a press conference, Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran is moving forward based on the terms of the MoU and is determined to use it as a foundation for negotiations, provided the US lets go of its distrust. He highlighted the importance of reciprocity in negotiations, with Iran matching its commitments to the level of US compliance. Pezeshkian also emphasized that Iran will not give in to force and will base its actions on the decisions of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. The Iranian President had earlier reaffirmed the country’s commitment to dialogue and negotiations, while stressing that Tehran will not be forced to surrender. The MoU, signed in June, aims to end the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, with negotiations scheduled to take place within a 60-day period. However, recent escalation in the region has left the talks’ fate uncertain. Pezeshkian’s remarks come amid rumored divisions within Iran’s leadership over the MoU, which he has defended as a decision to enter negotiations with the US.
