On October 11, the Mangaluru coast will host a distinctive cultural journey as Indie Sound Trail (IST), in collaboration with Art Kanara Trust, presents 'Chorus of the Coast — The Homecoming Show.' This innovative event, part of IST's Stories in Sound series, invites participants aboard a boat to experience Tulunadu through a fresh blend of independent music, compelling photography, local cuisine, historical narratives, and archival materials.

Far beyond a typical musical performance, 'Chorus of the Coast' explores the rich tapestry of Tulunadu, focusing on its people, collective memories, evolving cultural practices, and diverse creative expressions that continuously shape the region's identity. Tulunadu's spirit, historically defined by its language, landscape, food, and traditions, finds new articulation through sound, serving as a lens to understand its dynamic evolution across generations.

The initiative brings together artists with varied connections to Tulunadu – some deeply rooted, others returning, and a few encountering it from an external perspective. These diverse viewpoints offer a comprehensive understanding of the region's profound influence. Carol Pinto of Indie Sound Trail emphasizes the platform's role in nurturing talent: "Cultural ecosystems grow when artists are given both a platform and an audience willing to discover. Regions like Tulunadu have an extraordinary depth of creative talent, and we want to help create pathways for that talent to be seen, nurtured and carried forward." She highlights the importance of fostering culturally rooted, ambitious experiences locally, aiming to build a self-sustaining cultural ecosystem.

Significantly, the event occurs a day after World Tulu Script Day on October 10, a date recognizing the script's historical and cultural importance. 'Chorus of the Coast' moves beyond merely acknowledging the past, instead showcasing how the Tulu language and wider cultural identity thrive in contemporary forms and continue to evolve. Indie Sound Trail has partnered with Solmelu Studios, its official lettering partner, to integrate the Tulu script into the event's visual identity. Through their Taulava Aksharamala work, the studio incorporates the script into stage design, placing it firmly within a modern cultural context and making the language and its script more visible and accessible.
