Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should break his silence on the issue of Manipur. Several Congress MPs, including Manish Tewari, have given adjournment notices in both the Houses of Parliament over the issue of Manipur.
New Delhi. The Congress on Thursday targeted the central government over a video of two women being paraded naked in Manipur and said that the opposition alliance ‘Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance’ (India) will seek an answer from the government on this subject with the commencement of the monsoon session of Parliament today. Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should break his silence on the issue of Manipur. Several Congress MPs, including Manish Tewari, have given adjournment notices in both the Houses of Parliament over the issue of Manipur. Jairam Ramesh tweeted, it has been 78 days since large scale caste violence broke out in Manipur.
It has been 77 days since the horrific incident in which two women were paraded naked and allegedly raped. Even after 63 days of registration of FIR against unknown persons, the culprits are still absconding. He claimed that due to the ban on internet service in Manipur, the rest of India had no idea that such a horrific incident took place in Manipur. Taking a dig at Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani, the Congress leader said, it is absolutely inexplicable that the Women and Child Development Minister waited for 76 days to speak to the Manipur Chief Minister or issue a statement.
He asked, was the Central Government, the Home Minister or the Prime Minister not aware of this incident? When will the Modi government stop talking like everything is fine? When will the Chief Minister of Manipur be changed? How many more such incidents have been suppressed? Ramesh said, as soon as the monsoon session starts from today, India will seek answers. Break the silence Prime Minister! A video of two women being paraded naked in Manipur went viral on social media on Wednesday. Officials said that this video is of May 4.
