I-Day celebrations amidst weekend curfew in Dakshina Kannada
MANGALURU: Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district celebrated the 75th Independence Day meaningfully without much pomp and ceremony because of the Covid-19 surge. Minister for fisheries, ports and inland transport S Angara hoisted the tricolour at Nehru Maidan in a ceremony held following Covid-19 protocol on Sunday.
“We have already administered nearly 13 lakh doses of vaccines to people in Dakshina Kannada. The Wenlock District Hospital has been upgraded into a super speciality centre while all public health centres in the district are well-equipped to provide better treatment. A super speciality medicine block built at a cost of Rs 23.5 crore and a super speciality surgical block has been constructed at a cost of Rs 35.2 crore at the Wenlock Hospital,” the minister said.
The minister called upon people to be prepared to face the possibilities of a third wave of infection.
“Let us be alert and follow the directions of experts to prevent the spread of virus. Our aim should be to protect our children and make their future safe. Religious leaders, social workers, educationists, farmers, government officials, health sector employees and all others should consider it as their responsibility to protect the lives of people. We are privileged to have the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Basavaraj Bommai at a time the nation is going through a tough phase of pandemic,” he added.
