Gujarat received heavy rains on Tuesday, causing flooding in many areas. Rajkot, Surat and Gir Somnath districts were inundated due to torrential rains, 300 mm of rain fell in the state in the last few hours and 70 people were evacuated.
Gujarat’s flood situation is at such a level that vehicles submerged in rain water look like toys. These scenes have gone viral on social media. Roads are flooded in many areas. Shops are closed due to floods.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated heavy rains in some districts of Saurashtra and parts of South Gujarat in the coming days.
According to the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC), Sutrapada taluk of Gir Somnath district received 345 mm of rain in just 14 hours from 6 am on Tuesday, while Dhoraji taluk of Rajkot district received 250 mm of rain.
145 mm was recorded in just two hours. Surat received heavy rains with around 104 mm of rain recorded during the day. Heavy rains in some parts of Junagadh district. High alert has been declared in Gujarat due to heavy inflow of water. In addition, the state government said in a release that a warning has been issued for heavy rains in the coming days.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been put on high alert in view of the current rain situation.
