On Friday, Gujarat authorities deployed 50 disaster response teams as the India Meteorological Department issued a ‘Red Alert’ for 13 districts and an ‘Orange Alert’ for seven others, anticipating heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across the state. Relief Commissioner Gaurang Makwana stated that the state government has activated extensive preparedness measures, instructing all departments and district administrations to remain vigilant and ensure emergency arrangements are in place. The IMD forecast indicates that 13 districts are under a ‘Red Alert’, while seven districts have been placed under an ‘Orange Alert’, with significant rainfall already recorded in several districts, including Narmada, Anand, and Surat. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, relief, rescue, and precautionary measures are being implemented across the state, with the evacuation of residents from flood-prone areas already underway. To strengthen the state’s emergency response, 17 National Disaster Response Force teams and 33 State Disaster Response Force teams have been deployed, with three NDRF teams on standby in Vadodara district. Makwana urged citizens to remain indoors unless necessary, avoiding rumours and following official advisories. The district administration has also mapped available rescue boats and operators in Vadodara to facilitate immediate rescue operations if required.
