On the heels of a devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake, world leaders have come together to express their solidarity with the people of Colombia. The earthquake, which struck the South American nation, has left a trail of destruction and claimed scores of lives, with rescue operations still underway. French President Immannuel Macron was among the first to extend his support, stating that Colombia can count on France’s friendship and assistance. In a message on X, Macron conveyed his deepest condolences to the victims, their families, and those affected by the disaster, praising the courage of rescue teams working to assist the affected populations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also voiced his support, calling on the global community to rally behind the affected people. With at least 25 reported dead and many still trapped under the rubble, Zelensky urged those who can to provide assistance. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Ecuador President Daniel Noboa Azin have also expressed their solidarity, with Meloni stating that Italy stands with the Colombian people and Azin offering to mobilize Ecuador’s USAR team to support rescue efforts. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced that the Trump Administration is closely monitoring the situation and stands ready to support the people of Colombia and President Abelardo De La Espriella’s Administration.
