“Give a chance to AAP,” Kejriwal to people of Gujarat
After a landslide victory in Punjab, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal has set his eyes on Gujarat, the home State of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, that goes for Assembly polls later this year.
On Saturday, kickstarting Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) campaign in the State, Mr. Kejriwal asked the people to give “one chance” to AAP. He was launching a mega roadshow Tiranga Yatra in Ahmedabad.
Accompanied by his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann, Mr. Kejriwal said “AAP would eliminate corruption the way it did in Delhi and Punjab”.
“I am not here to criticise any party. I have not come here to defeat the BJP or the Congress. I have come to make Gujarat win. We have to make Gujarat and Gujaratis victorious in the polls. We have to end corruption in Gujarat,” he said addressing the roadshow in eastern Ahmedabad.
Mr. Kejriwal said that despite being in power for over 25 years, the ruling BJP could not end or eliminate corruption in the State. “After 25 years in power, they (BJP) have become arrogant now. They have stopped listening to the people. I urge you to give one chance to Aam Aadmi Party, like the people of Punjab did, the people of Delhi did.”
“Give one chance to Aam Aadmi Party, if you don’t like us, change us the next time. Give one chance to Aam Aadmi Party, you will forget all parties,” Mr. Kejriwal said to a massive crowd holding tricolour flags in the city.
He added that people of Delhi have forgotten other parties after it gave a chance to AAP in the national capital.
Newly elected Punjab CM Mann, while addressing the roadshow, said that the entire focus of AAP is on Gujarat now.
Earlier in the day, both the leaders visited Mahatma Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram.
The two leaders, who arrived late on Friday, visited the Sabarmati Ashram on Saturday and were seen spinning the charkha at Hruday Kunj, Mahatma’s residence on the Ashram premises.
“I feel grateful to have been born in the same country as Gandhiji,” Mr. Kejriwal said, calling the Ashram a “spiritual place.”
His Punjab counterpart said like Gujarat, Punjab is also the land of freedom fighters. “ In Punjab also, every other household has a charkha.”
Both leaders did not take any political questions. “Let’s not talk about politics from the Ashram’s land,” they said.
