On June 24, Udupi MLA Yashpal A. Suvarna inaugurated a training program for staff of Fishery Co-operative Societies in Udupi, aiming to create jobs in the fisheries sector. The central government has allocated Rs 25,000 crore for the fisheries wealth scheme, which will also focus on exporting products. The training program, held at Jagannath Hall of Badagabettu Credit Cooperative Society, was attended by presidents, board members, and chief executives of fishermen’s cooperative societies from Udupi, Brahmavar, and Kapu taluks.
Yashpal emphasized the importance of effective implementation of the fisheries project, which will provide economic security to those involved in the fishing sector. He suggested that fishermen should receive information and training on various projects, and that mechanized fishing will commence on August 1. The director of Udupi District Cooperative Union, Alevoor Harish Kini, stated that the union’s goal is to provide education, training, and promotion to fishermen, who contribute to the country’s food and economic security.
Resource persons, including Professor Santosh Shetty and Assistant Director of Fisheries Renita D’Souza, were present at the program. Renita D’Souza and Santhosh Shetty delivered a lecture on the facilities available from the Fisheries Department. The program was presented by Anusha Kotyan, Chief Operating Officer of Udupi District Co-operative Union, who also extended gratitude to the attendees.
