On Friday, an FIR was filed at the Bantwal City Police Station against Kiran Aradhya, a journalist from the Samvada website, for publishing a post on social media platform X that allegedly gave a communal color to the murder case of Lavanya, a young woman from B.C. Road, Bantwal taluk, Dakshina Kannada district. The case was registered based on a complaint filed by social activist Muhammad Siraj M.U. Kiran Aradhya had shared a video related to the murder case on his X account, along with a text that implied the accused might be spared by the Congress. The complaint alleges that the post was published with the intention of creating a misconception about the accused’s identity and disrupting communal harmony. The police had already identified the accused as Chethan, a resident of Odilnala village, and a distant relative of the deceased. The preliminary investigation suggested that the act was committed due to unrequited love. The accused was taken into custody by the police near Vamanjoor on the outskirts of Mangaluru on Friday. The complaint urged for appropriate legal action against Kiran Aradhya for his post, which attempted to give a communal color to the case by referring to the attire and external appearance of the accused.
