Find the source of fake news: CM Siddaramaiah instructs
Bengaluru, June 20: With Congress coming to power in the state, the menace of fake news on social media has crossed the limit. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has given strict instructions to the authorities to trace the sources of this fake news and identify those who are spreading them on social media and take legal action.
He also discussed this in detail with Home Minister G. Parameshwar who met him today. When Congress came to power in 2013, the menace of fake news increased. This time too, the political opponents are following the same strategy.
As the Lok Sabha elections are approaching, the chances of creating more and more fake news as usual and trying to create unrest in the society are high. Therefore, it has been suggested that the sources of fake news should be identified at the beginning and necessary steps should be taken to root them out.
Last time they tried to create unrest in the society by spreading false news about child thieves, beef transporters etc. In this assembly election, the people of the state have rejected the BJP and the Sangh Parivar in a clear and unequivocal manner.
But while we are gearing up for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, which are very important for the survival of the country’s democracy, there are indications that there may be attempts to create mob attacks and riots through fake news and rumours. Therefore, it has been suggested that necessary action should be taken in this regard.
Fact Check at Commissionerate/ Head Office
Earlier, a technical team was working in Bangalore City Police Commissionerate and Police Headquarters to detect fake news, fact-check and warn people and create awareness among the public. However, the BJP government stopped fact checking as soon as it came to power. It has to be started again. Cyber police should work round the clock to trace the sources of fake news. The Chief Minister has instructed the concerned officials to submit a report in this regard every month.
