The encounter took place after the security forces received specific information about the presence of terrorists in the Jumgund area near the LoC. Police and Army personnel received specific information about terrorist movements in Jumgund area of LoC in Kupwara district.
The encounter took place when the presence of the terrorists was ascertained and they were asked to surrender. On June 13, security forces had gunned down two terrorists near the LoC in Kupwara. Earlier this month, on June 2, militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. A defense official said the army and police jointly cordoned off the area and launched a search operation after suspicious movement was noticed in the Dassal Gujran forest area near Rajouri.
