On October 29, 2026, an elderly woman farmer in Solakpalli village, Sangareddy district, Hyderabad, stopped two men from making off with her gold mangalsutra and administered a swift punishment.

While tending to her field, the woman was approached by Aravind and Sailu, who rode a motorcycle and asked for directions. As she responded, the duo seized her three‑tola (approximately 35 gram) gold mangalsutra, a sacred marital necklace, and attempted to flee.

Alerted by the sudden theft, the farmer raised a cry that drew nearby villagers. Several farmers gave chase, intercepted the two suspects, and escorted them back to the angry woman.

Grabbing a thick wooden stick, the farmer delivered a forceful thrashing to both men, who repeatedly shouted “Amma!” as they were beaten. The villagers’ swift intervention prevented the loss of the valuable jewellery.

Local authorities from Jinnaram Police arrived shortly thereafter and placed Aravind and Sailu in custody. Police records indicate the accused had been linked to four prior theft incidents, suggesting a pattern of criminal activity in the region.

The incident underscores the cultural significance of the mangalsutra in Indian society and the community’s willingness to defend its members against theft. Law enforcement officials have urged residents to report similar crimes promptly and assured that investigations will continue to curb repeat offenses.
