Vote tabulation for the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections commenced Saturday, with outgoing DUSU President Aryan Maan confidently predicting a dominant 4-0 victory for the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). As ballot counting proceeded in New Delhi, leaders from various student organizations voiced their expectations.
Speaking to IANS, Maan articulated absolute certainty in ABVP's prospects, stating, "ABVP will win with a 4-0 clean sweep. I say with absolute confidence that we will secure a clean sweep across all posts." He further anticipated that prominent National Students' Union of India (NSUI) leaders would raise allegations of "vote chori," but insisted ABVP would triumph by "winning the hearts of students." Maan also welcomed the Delhi High Court's recent directive.
The High Court's order, issued Friday, explicitly prohibited any victory processions by student organizations or candidates following the DUSU election results. Meanwhile, NSUI Vice-Presidential candidate Vir Chatrath conveyed a positive outlook, noting significant student support. ASAP Secretary candidate Pankaj Kumar also expressed optimism as the counting process initiated, emphasizing his extensive hard work and full faith in a positive outcome.
For these DUSU elections, ABVP presented Yash Dabas for President and Ishu Maurya for Vice-President. The NSUI fielded Vijay Shankar Meena and Veer Chatrath for the corresponding key positions. Polling on Friday recorded a 40.46 percent voter turnout across 52 polling centers, marking the highest participation in the past three years. The election occurred in two phases: 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Prior to the university-level declarations, ABVP had already secured dominant victories in several participating colleges, sweeping all key posts at Aditi Mahavidyalaya, Sri Aurobindo College (Morning), Dr B.R. Ambedkar College, Bharati College, and Shivaji College. At Ramjas College, ABVP candidates won President, Secretary, Central Councillor, and Internal Complaints Committee posts. Of Delhi University's 91 colleges, 52 directly participate in DUSU elections, while institutions like St Stephen's College do not. Authorities are conducting the counting under heightened security.
