New Delhi, July 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to contest from Ramanathapuram Lok Sabha constituency in Tamil Nadu in the next Lok Sabha elections. It is said that the BJP high command can take a decision in this regard.
At the regional consultative meeting of 11 state BJP presidents and national general secretaries held at the party office in Nampally, party president J.P. Nadda is said to have told the delegates that it has decided to field Modi from a southern Indian state with the aim of establishing the party firmly in the south.
When the opinion of the representatives was asked, it was learned that most of them suggested Narendra Modi to contest from Ramanathapura. Presently, Indian Muslim League’s K Navaskani is the MP from the constituency. The advice of party leaders is important and challenging.
Narendra Modi currently represents Hindu-dominated Varanasi. If Navskani can defeat him from Ramanathapur, which has Muslim votes, it will send a strong message to the entire southern states. Thus, it is said that if Hindus organize themselves as a vote bank to support the BJP, anything can be achieved.
Nadda has placed a high demand for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He told delegates that BJP should win at least 50 seats from South Indian states. The target is being offered as a balancing tactic as the party is likely to lose in some northern states due to anti-incumbency wave.
The meeting lauded the success of Modi’s public meeting in Warangal and the Prime Minister will address at least two meetings in Telangana ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. It is learned that BJP MLA and party Election Management Committee President Rajender Itala came to the assembly hall to meet Nadda, who asked him to persuade leaders planning to join the Congress to stay with the BJP.
Nadda called on the BJP leaders to end factionalism in their states and work together to bring the BJP back to power. According to sources, Nadda was on his way to offer prayers at the Ujjain Mahankali temple in Secunderabad when he received a phone call from former MP Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy. It is learned that Rajgopal is keen on contesting from urban areas and has preferred to contest from LB Nagar Assembly constituency or Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency.
Sunday’s high-level meeting was held four times. In it, the party high command has taken the progress of BJP’s ‘Maha Jan Sanksha Abhiyan’. All eleven states have submitted their report including information about press conferences, meetings of social media influencers, business conferences, development pilgrimages, meetings of intellectuals, urgent documentary screenings, public meetings, meetings of beneficiaries, meetings of social workers, ghar ghar meetings. A connectivity campaign, Modi’s Mann Ki Baat and other programs are planned as part of the campaign.
Around 34 delegates including BJP National General Secretaries, BJP State Presidents of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Mumbai, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and Goa participated in the meeting.
