Do you know how much excess water was diverted by Karnataka to Tamil Nadu last year?

The Cauvery dispute between Tamil Nadu & Karnataka has been going on for hundreds of years. Every year there is a fight for water between the two states. Even when the situation is tough, only Karnataka has given water despite its difficulties. But do you know the amount of excess water that was diverted from us to Tamil Nadu last year and 2022? Learn explosive information here.

In India, there is an allegation that politics is brought into every issue. Especially the politics of Tamil Nadu is based on the Cauvery dispute. Thus year by year the friendship between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka is deteriorating due to politics. Even if there is no rain in Karnataka, Kannadigars are often enraged by the decree that Cauvery water should be released. The situation has improved in Karnataka with good rains for a few days, if by any chance there is a drought this year too, there was fear of drought in Tamil Nadu & Karnataka. Do you know how much additional water Karnataka will release to Tamil Nadu in 2022?

Bumper from Karnataka to Tamil Nadu!

1) Mettur Dam is one of the largest dams across the Kaveri River in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu and is the lifeblood of Tamil Nadu. If water is released in Karnataka, it gets stored in Mettur dam. Do you know how much extra water Karnataka drained due to heavy rains here last year?

2) Last year i.e. in 2022, 472.6 TMC of Karnataka water was additionally released from Karnataka. A total of 682 TMC of water was released through this. Thus Tamil Nadu got bumper water last year.

3) Last year due to Monsoon Rain, 472.6 TMC of excess water was released from Mettur Dam. After 62 years, water was released in such a quantity that it attracted attention. In 1961, 321 TMC of water was released. Thus, hundreds of TMC of water was wasted and entered the sea through Tamil Nadu.

4) water released by Mettur Dam will green the farmlands of Trichy & Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Karur, Perambalur, Thanjavur and Pudukkottai districts including Erode. That is why water is being released from Mettur Dam now.

5) The previous record was 321 TMC released in 1961 in the overall 89-year history of Mettur Dam. But that record was broken last year. After 1 year, the fight for water has started again.

6) Mettur dam across the Kaveri river in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu has a total capacity of 120. It can store 93.47 tmc of water, and now the Mettur reservoir has 63.5 tmc of water and 10,000 cusecs of water is being released. With the inflow at 454 cusecs, will Tamil Nadu again fight for water, this time with Karnataka? There is a doubt.

Clear problem from Goat Dam!

1) If the Mekedatu Dam is constructed, the water that is simply wasted during monsoons can be used for drinking water projects in the border districts of Karnataka & Tamil Nadu.

2) If water accumulates in Mekedatu Reservoir, 65-66 TMC of excess water can flow into Tamil Nadu and prevent sea silt. Tamil Nadu will also benefit from this.

3) besides providing potable water around Bangalore, also helps in generating the required electricity in Karnataka. Tamil Nadu can also benefit from this.

4) If the Mekedatu project is completed, the water problem in Bangalore suburbs will be almost alleviated. It is believed that the Mekedatu project can give a boon to the Ramanagara district which is stuck in drought.

5) Groundwater is drying up in the area around Ramanagara, if Mekedatu Dam is constructed, the ground water level will rise. Mekedatu Dam will remove the anxiety of farmers in Ramnagar & Bengaluru suburbs due to uncertain rains.

Thus, more than 400 tmc of water was wasted at one time last year. If the Mekedatu Reservoir was constructed, the wastage of rain water could have been avoided. Thus, Karnataka has also bet to build a dam near Mekedatu in our land. Even though they understand this, the politicians of Tamil Nadu are making fun of it and are being accused of it. Also, Karnataka has demanded that the central government should intervene in this matter.
