On Saturday, Dakshina Kannada district experienced heavy rainfall, with more expected in the coming days. District Collector Darshan H.V. has instructed officials to be prepared for any situation. He conducted an online meeting with officials, directing them to ensure taluk administrations are available 24/7 to manage rain-related disasters. Control rooms must operate round the clock, he emphasized.
With frequent reports of landslides in the district, Darshan H.V. stressed the need for monitoring at identified potential collapse sites. As a precaution, people living in hazardous areas may need to be evacuated, and temporary measures such as sandbags should be put in place to prevent landslides. The Collector also instructed that these measures be taken on private lands if necessary.
Darshan H.V. further directed that compensation be distributed within 24 hours to families of those who lost their lives due to natural calamities. Displaced individuals should receive necessary facilities, and teams like the fire brigade, SDRF, and NDRF should be on standby. Although no highway blockages have been reported, the Collector advised taking urgent action to clear landslides on major highways like Charmadi, Sampaje, and Shiradi as a precaution.
Others present at the meeting included D.K.GPM CEO Narvade Naik Karbhari and Deputy District Collector Raju K. The district is taking proactive steps to mitigate the effects of heavy rainfall, ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents.
