Kolar: In the backdrop of the inability to find the right price for the king of fruits, mango growers have poured huge mangoes into the road.
A pile of mangoes have been poured on the roadways of Srinivasapura in Kolar district, which is famous for growing mangoes. The fungus infection in the Thotapuri fruit has caused the mangoes to spill over to the road due to the inability to properly market the mango at the right price and time. Also, the growers have demanded that the government provide a proper solution to their crop, and the government has been silent on this.
Coronary shock
In Srinivasapur taluk, the most important cultivation of pepper is Mango, a variety of mangoes not found anywhere in the world. So the mango fruit is exported to the country and abroad. Corona’s shock this year in the mango tin has caused unprecedented losses for mango growers. The farmers, who make a living in one year’s crop, have raised millions of rupees and raised the mango with much anticipation. But farmers are shocked and distracted by the backdrop of bargains on the market. Does the tree degrade the tree? Don’t want to? Has come to the situation. Some of those who have already harvested are poured on the side of the road without being sold for so little.
Mango growers suffering from lockdown
The mango that comes to the market is rotting in the market and the mangoes are being poured out by traders. The farmers do not have the cost of harvesting at the current prices. Mango growers are in serious trouble this year between Corona. So the government should come to the aid of farmers by announcing a minimum support price for mango growers and the demand of traders and farmers. Together, the mango growers are suffering from the Corona lockdown. Farmer and businessman have all fallen to the streets and are living in a single crop year. The government should come to their aid and help the distressed farmers.
A sharply declining price
Speaking about this, Kolar District Mango Growers Association President Neelaturu Chinnappa Reddy said, “Farmers have lost more this year compared to last year. The price in the market has also plummeted as the write-up on the injury. Bygun Palli and Thotapuri Mango are not getting customers right. In 2019, each ton of baigan palli mango was sold for Rs 1 lakh. But last year it was down from 50 thousand to 80 thousand. This year, the rate is still declining, with only 8 to 15 thousand per ton asking for it. They are crying out that this will not be half of the money spent by the farmers on Mango Katavi.
The Andhra Pradesh government’s order to cause the headaches of the farmers
Farmers also suffer from annual maintenance costs, and there are no mango pulp factories in Kolar and Chikkaballapur. For this we depend on Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Thotapuri mai is grown in both states. Thus, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu farmers do not come to Srinivasa Puram for mangoes. Demand for this is declining sharply and the Andhra Pradesh government has issued a directive to its traders to buy Thotapuri mai from locals. Thus, the traders are buying them for Rs. 10,000 per ton.
This is a huge problem for farmers in Kolar, where farmers have grown mangoes in an area of 60,000 hectares. The farmers have been hired to sell their crops without selling them.
