Mangaluru police are investigating a high-stakes robbery and kidnapping reported belatedly on October 29, involving a Davangere resident who lost Rs 1.15 crore in cash. Sathya Narayana, in a complaint filed at Urva police station, detailed how he was forcibly abducted in Mangaluru on October 28, stripped of two bags containing the large sum and his mobile phone.
According to Narayana's statement, his employer, Nagaraj of Gandhi Bazaar, Shivamogga, had entrusted him with the substantial amount – Rs 1.15 crore – on October 23. The instruction was to travel to Mangaluru, secure a room at a lodge near the KSRTC bus stand, and await Nagaraj's arrival. Following these directions, Narayana departed Davangere by KSRTC bus at 10 PM on October 27, reaching Mangaluru early the next morning, around 6 AM.
The complaint details a harrowing sequence of events. As Narayana disembarked from the bus near Lal Bagh and walked along the footpath, intending to have breakfast, a black car suddenly pulled up. Four unidentified individuals, their faces obscured by mufflers, emerged from the vehicle. They forcibly bundled him into the car, initiating his two-hour ordeal.
The abductors drove Narayana around Mangaluru city for approximately two hours. During this time, they robbed him of the two bags containing the Rs 1.15 crore cash and his mobile phone. At around 8 AM, the kidnappers dropped him off on a hill near the Kavoor bus stand. Before fleeing, they issued a chilling threat: "If you complain to the police, we will not spare your life; we will kill you."
Despite the threats, Narayana proceeded to file a formal complaint at the Urva police station. Authorities have registered a case and launched a full investigation into the brazen daylight kidnapping and significant cash robbery.
