Dakshina Kannada district is bracing for significant rainfall in the coming days, prompting Deputy Commissioner Darshan H. V. to mandate a district-wide state of elevated vigilance and comprehensive emergency preparedness. During an online review meeting held on Saturday, August 2, 2026, the DC directed all government departments to ensure round-the-clock readiness for potential rain-related emergencies across the coastal region.
Addressing increasing concerns over landslides and mudslips, Darshan H. V. instructed officials to intensify monitoring of all vulnerable areas. He authorized pre-emptive evacuation of residents from homes identified as being at risk of landslip threats, emphasizing safety as the paramount concern. Furthermore, the DC ordered the immediate implementation of temporary protective measures, including the strategic placement of sandbags in landslide-prone zones, extending these actions to private properties where necessary.
To ensure swift emergency response, the Deputy Commissioner demanded that all taluk administrations maintain constant availability and that control rooms operate 24×7. He underscored the importance of prompt disaster relief, instructing officials to disburse compensation cheques to families of natural calamity victims within 24 hours of a fatality. Authorities must also arrange adequate temporary accommodation for individuals displaced by rain-induced disasters.
Darshan H. V. put the Fire and Emergency Services, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on standby for rapid deployment in emergency operations. He also called for immediate debris clearance following any landslides on critical highways, specifically mentioning the Charmadi, Sampaje, and Shiradi ghat stretches.
