Biparjoy along the coast of Gujarat
Cyclone Biparjoy, which has intensified, is moving towards the Gujarat coast and is expected to make landfall near Jakhow port by Thursday evening. It is expected that the speed of 125 to 135 km per hour is likely to hit.
The cyclone will cross the coast of Saurashtra and Kutch and adjoining Pakistan. A red alert has been announced for six districts of Gujarat, and 74,000 coastal residents have been moved to temporary shelters as a precautionary measure. The impact of the cyclone is expected to be greater over Kutch and Dwarka districts.
Biparjoy is the first cyclone to cross Gujarat in the last 25 years. In June 1998, a very severe cyclone hit the coastal districts of Kutch and Saurashtra, causing massive damage to the coastal areas and killing 3000 people.
This time precautionary measures have been taken to avoid more casualties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with the officials and instructed them to take necessary steps.
UAE astronaut Sultan Al-Neyadi, currently stationed at the International Space Station, captured stunning images and a video of Cyclone Biparjoy forming in the Arabian Sea. The Arab astronaut shared these breathtaking visuals of the cyclone, which is expected to hit Gujarat on June 15th.
