MANGALURU:Health officials moved a passenger in an isolation centre at the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act after a positive test for Covid-19 was detected Monday at Mangaluru International Airport.
Dr Ashok H, nodal officer for Covid, said the passenger had tested positive during the RT-PCR test passengers bound for the UAE are mandatorily required to take 48 hours before departure. Despite testing positive, the passenger had travelled to MIA. However, he was stopped at the entrance gate by security staff.
He said MIA and airline officials failed to take necessary action against the passenger. “They were supposed to isolate him and book a case at the local police station. But the passenger was allowed to roam freely around MIA,” Dr Ashok said.
A meeting with airport and airline authorities was held on Wednesday to ensure no such incidents are repeated. Travelers to the UAE must take prior approval from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs or the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship after uploading documents, including a negative RT-PCR test report not older than 48 hours. “We are not sure which test report the passenger uploaded,” Dr Ashoka said.
