Congress should not be satisfied just because BJP defeated in Karnataka- Shashi Tharoor

Jaipur: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has said that the Congress should not be satisfied with the BJP’s defeat in Karnataka as voter behavior can change between state and national elections.

He highlighted the poor performance of the Congress in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections after winning assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Shashi Tharoor, speaking to PTI news agency during the closing ceremony of Sahitya Utsav, said that just by winning in one state, it cannot be assumed that it can work nationally. In 2018, apart from emerging as the largest party in Karnataka, we also won in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh elections. However, in the Lok Sabha elections, BJP gave us a comeback in these states. He said that we got only one seat in Karnataka too.

In the Karnataka assembly elections held in May this year, the Congress won 135 seats, while the BJP bagged 66 seats. He said that strong and effective local leadership in Karnataka and emphasis on local issues led to the Congress victory.
