Coimbatore DIG suicide: Mental depression was the reason, revealed in preliminary investigation
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Circle Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) C Vijayakumar committed suicide by shooting himself at his residence in Redfields in the city this morning. He was about 45 years old.
Sources said that he was living with his family in his quarters in Red Fields, Coimbatore, and committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver at around 6.15 am. Investigation is on to find out the cause of his death.
Preliminary investigation revealed that he committed suicide due to severe mental depression. The body was taken to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. Senior police officers have camped at his house. Vijayakumar took charge as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Coimbatore range on January 6, 2023.
Vijayakumar, a 2009 batch IPS officer, has served as Superintendent of Police of Kancheepuram, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam and Thiruvarur districts. His last posting was in Chennai where he served as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Annanagar.
