A significant public meeting is scheduled for October 17th in Brahmavar, where the Udupi District Karavali High Court Bench Struggle Committee will rally support for the long-standing demand to establish a High Court bench in Udupi. The taluk-level rights assertion gathering will commence at 10:30 AM at Brahmavar's Banters Bhavan, aiming to consolidate public backing for the crucial legal infrastructure.

Advocate Premprasad Shetty, Convener of the committee, disclosed these details during a press conference held in Udupi on October 16th. Shetty welcomed a recent development: the High Court Chief Justice's formation of a three-member judicial committee on September 29th to review the proposal for a coastal bench. This committee comprises Justices Anu Sivaraman, S.G. Pandit, and Mohammed Nawaz, a step the struggle committee views as highly encouraging.

Shetty emphasized Udupi's strategic geographical position as an ideal location for the proposed High Court bench, whether it be a permanent or a circuit court. Situated centrally between Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts, Udupi also offers convenient access for residents from certain taluks of Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga districts.

Establishing a High Court bench in Udupi would significantly alleviate the burden on thousands of litigants from the coastal belt who currently undertake arduous journeys to Bengaluru for case hearings. Such a facility would lead to substantial savings in time, effort, and financial expenses for the public, simultaneously making the justice delivery system more accessible and efficient at a regional level.

The upcoming meeting serves a dual purpose: to garner widespread public support for the High Court bench demand and to strategize the committee's future course of action. Shetty urged lawyers, office bearers of various organizations, social and political leaders, and the general public from across the district to participate actively and lend their crucial support. Former Udupi Zilla Panchayat President B. Bhujanga Shetty, Brahmavar Advocates Association President Kadoor Praveen Shetty, and social workers Shekhar Havanje, Alwyn Andrade, Mahesh Thadekkallu, and Raviranjan Shetty were also present at the press conference.
