MANGALURU: Coast Guard district headquarters (Karnataka) organized a walkathon on Wednesday to commemorate India’s 75th anniversary of independence under the theme “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav”. Imamuddin Ahmad, commissioner CGST and Customs, emphasized the importance of a walkathon for a healthy lifestyle in Mangaluru. It would be great if “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” could be an event in which the spirit of freedom struggle, a tribute to the martyrs, and their promise to create India could be experienced. The event was flagged off at 7am.
With regard to operations and other maritime activities, the Indian Coast Guard and Indian Customs maintain synergy. The significance of the event is to emphasise on India’s glorious history and showcase India’s development since Independence and encourage people to remain healthy and fit by including physical activities and sports in their daily lives.
As many as 100 personnel participated in the walkathon held near Custom Road, New Mangalore covering 7.5 Kms. DIG S B Venkatesh, commander, Coast Guard, Karnataka said they have planned a special community interaction drive for fishermen in the coming days and will be hosting the national flag at various islands and lighthouses.
